New Local Writer

That's how they addressed me during the interview...it sounded rather funny though, one, because I have yet to be published, two, because I had never thought somebody would be interviewing me as a writer (still a long way to go). It was the Photographer's idea actually. The girls from UKM found him on the internet (found his page actually) when googling for some local writers. They emailed him, and he said, he'll introduce them to another person who would probably fit better for their assignment. He then asked me to email them, obviously I was more than glad to offer some help as I had also experienced the difficulties in interviewing local writers who write in English (hard to locate and make a date with some of them). I thought helping the girls meant finding a candidate to be interviewed, not offering myself to be interviewed!!

Anyhow, they came and they set up the interview area (they brought the professional camcorder, but I had to find a spot with good lightings - can't imagine how they carry that bulky thing on their shoulders all the way from UKM, well...they came via public transport, "achovies"), and they forgot to inform me that they're supposed to record the interview session. Duh...I almost freaked out when I saw the camcorder! I'm a camera-shy person lah.

We had to re-record the interview a few times, due to the lack of preparation, no doubt I was pretty nervous and wasn't looking at the camera at all hehehehe. I had to 'advise' and suggest a few questions to be asked because they're deviating from the focus of their assignment (that's how I felt when I read the questions after the second take) - it's important to impress your lecturers with the issues that you're addressing, it shows your maturity and your awareness of the current issues. Lagipun, the course is Literary Works - need to have more substance for the assignment, and they can't just rely on the so-called writer's (me lah) background ^__^ (have to learn to ask the interviewee's opinion on issues relating to the "writing" world, for instance). However, it was fun working with them. Had an opportunity to have a good look at the camcorder, cool stuff!

I know this sounds awkward, but I guess, I really am missing those good old times when I had to deal with tons of assignments, mid-term exams etc. Argh...I really hope I could do my MA ASAP!!!
