Am I popular?

Somebody emailed me a set of questionnaire, it's like the kind of questionnaire that you post on your friendster's bulletin. One of the questions - list five things/events that made you famous. Believe me, in UIA...I am sooo not popular, unless you counted me as the topic for others to bitch around the campus. Pelik kan, many strangers (because I don't know them personally) or my classmates would come to me and ask "Alia, what did you get for mid-term, how's your assignment, did you get the highest for presentation?" - I don't know why are they so concerned about my marks. They have this attitude of comparing their marks with mine, it makes me feel a bit uneasy, partly because I don't know them and partly because I can sense the satisfaction on their face if I get lower marks. If I ask them back, they'll say, "malu lah, kita tak tere macam awak" (dalam hati tu mesti sengih kepuasan cam kerang busuk) ceh, podah la dey!

But, I was famous in school... for the wrong reasons most of the time hehe.

When I was in form two, I skipped a prep session at night together with the other 2/3 of form two students. I stayed in my friends' dorm at the top level of our hostel. We ponteng prep secara besar-besaran because we wanted to watch the form three students performing on their cultural night - an annual celebration for PMR students after the exam. We were sitting on the floor, eating maggi, suddenly a bunch of excos (pengawas asrama) came to check our dorm. Well, actually, they're my friends too and they wanted to join us watching the performances. So, we allowed them to join in the bandwagon. When the performance started, we stood at the corridor and watch them do the dikir barat. Unfortunately, a warden spotted us and heard us giggling. She walked up to the third floor, and we went hiding in the dorms and the toilets. I was with the excos under hiding under the katil. (banyak nyamuk woo) After few minutes, the excos cannot tahan anymore, so the leader, kak Elia thought she could just walk out and pretend as if she's checking the dorm. Heh! In her t-shirt and kain batik, teacher Rosella, the warden, quickly scolded her and asked us to come out. At the end of the performances, we had to stand in three lines, and recite an oath - "Kami berjanji tidak akan ponteng prep lagi!" Guess who was the leader - ME! It's all because of kak Elia, she was supposed to lead, tapi she can't stop laughing at that time. Actually, we had to berbaris after teacher Rosella called us out. And she slapped us on the shoulders, one by one, yelling at us "you stupid form two girlsssssss..." She didn't realize kak Elia and the others were excos.

Another occasion, where it was proven that I was totally naive and some what stupid (but it made me popular!) happened when I was in form three. The excos (again kak Elia liked to bully me) asked me to go the the form one dorms and check their lockers. If it's untidy, they have to give me food - it's actually for the excos, I didn't eat it. They told me, it's a tradition for first year students. I joined the school when I was in form two, so I didn't really know they're making fool out of me. By 11pm, I finished checking the lockers, and I brought all the food (biskut lah, sandwich lah etc.etc.) to the excos room. They ate it, offered to me, but I declined and went back to my dorm to sleep. If you ask any of the form one students in my school ('97), they'll say I was a big bully. Even my pet sister said I was kinda cruel for doing that. But, it made me popular (again, for the wrong reason!) Pure stupidity :P

Here are the 5 things that made me popular back then in school: (there're more, but...it's not good to brag about one's popularity hahahaha)

1) taekwondo, silat, netball, volleyball etc. SPORTS
2) arch-rival of another popular girl (at least I think she was - or was it me?)
3) was close with the excos (my seniors)
4) had a huge fight with the excos from my own batch
5) liked to make noise during the weekly hostel assembly

At the end of the day, popularity ain't getting you anywhere. See what happened to Kak Pah? It's an open secret, her vs. S*t*.
